It is not enough for complacent pastors to feed their dwindling flocks with anodyne repetitions of old platitudes. People are too educated and sophisticated for the old messages.

I thnk the biggest issue with folks turning away from God or rather that the message is falling upon deaf ears can be found seated squarely in the fact that I think on a larger level people are starting to see religion as something of a farce. How many people have been killed in teh name of Religion. How many countries have been invaded in the name of religion? Take a look around at folks. There are people who have religion, and a lot of them are hypocrites. Then there are people who have Faith. those are the true belivers. You will also see a difference in behavioral patterns. people with religion tend to be more fanatical and can be like zealots people with faith have a much more gentle outlook on things and are generally more tolerant. Its just an observation I have made over time. Maybe Its just wishful thinking on my part or I am only seeing what I want to see. A perfect example is where I am headed, Iraq. There is a deffinate difference between the two

I’ve met as many fanatical atheist/humanists as I have religious ones. It isn’t religion that kills, but the people using it as an excuse to commit such atrocities. Humanism is responsible for a lot of deaths as well (French/Russian/Chinese Revolutions anyone?). The answer to radical religion (both divine and humanistic) is freedom. Protecting the people’s right to choose what/who they wish to worship and believe is the logical conclusion, not the banning of religion.
